Despite predictions to the contrary New York City Children with asthma showed an
increase in asthma Hospitalization rates, after the smoking ban. As of December 2005
New York City is now publicizing a drop in asthma hospitalization to 6.1 per 1,000
which is still higher than the 2003  rate. Infant mortality also rose after the smoking ban.
